The Swingaroo Vintage Dancehall is an exciting monthly event in Preston, Lancashire, celebrating the swing era from the 1920’s to the 1950’s. The music, the style, the decorations, the romance and, of course, the dancing. Whether you’re a fan of The Charleston, the Lindy Hop, Balboa or Jive, there will be tunes to get you ‘In the Mood’ for dancing.
Dance lesson
If you’re an absolute beginner, but fancy having a go, fear not. Each month at 8.00pm there will be a beginners Lindy Hop class. We can get you started with enough to enable you to join in and have a go and will also work on exercises to improve leading and following techniques. The lesson is based on the teachings of our previous resident teachers from Pure Lindy. Be sure to arrive early so as not to miss out on this great opportunity to learn a fun dance in the best possible environment with new friends. No partner? No problem. We’ll make sure that everybody is taken care of.
The dj’s will be playing a varied mix of artists from Noel Coward to Chuck Berry, plenty of Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzgerald, Artie Shaw, Cab Calloway, Brian Setzer and the like. Electro-swing and contemporary hits with a swinging feel will get in there too. Basically, if it makes you move and smile. it’s in!
A new introduction for 2012 is the addition of Taxi Dancers. These are regulars (leads and follows) that are at a suitable level to be able to help new dancers and give them plenty of opportunities to practice on the dancefloor. They love to dance and want more dance partners in the future so they volunteer their time to be available to all. You’ll spot them wearing an official badge on the night. Just ask for a dance, or some help. They’ll even take you away from the floor if you’d like some more one to one explanations. They’re there for you, so please don’t hesitate.
Doors open at 7.30pm and entry is just £5, £4 for students and £3 for under 16s (must be with an adult).
